Chevrolet Silverado 1500 light pickup trucks were released in the year 1998. Silverado 1500 are offered in 3 cab lengths, two-door regular, three or four-door extended, and front-hinged four-door crew cabs.

1999-2002 Silverado 1500

In 1999, only the regular and three-door extended cabs were available. The regular pickup was powered by a 4.3-L V6 engine that delivered 200 hp at 4600 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm, mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Along with 4.3-L engine, the extended cabs were also equipped with a 4.8-L V6 power-train that produced 255 hp at 5200 rpm and 285 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

In 2000, a four-door extended cab was added and the power output level was also increased by a 5.3-L V8 engine by up to 285 hp and torsion of about 325 lb-ft, paired to a four-speed automatic transmission.

A Sportside cargo box was available on LT models, along with the standard electrochromic self-dimming rear view mirror and exterior temperature display.

An optional traction control and standard PRO TEC composite truck box were the biggest changes offered on 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

In 2002, all Silverado 1500 extended cabs came standard with a 4-speed automatic transmission, while regular cabs featured either manual or auto.

2003-2006 Silverado 1500

Silverado 1500 got a complete makeover in 2003; the highlights included revised moldings, power-folding heated mirrors with turn signal indicator and paddle lamps, new front fascia, taillights, redesigned instrument panel, revised center console, and more comprehensive dual-zone climate control system.

Silverado was the first full-size pickup to offer XM Satellite radio and Bose stereo system.

Under the hood, all 4.3-L V6 equipped models were ULEV certified and the more powerful V8 engine featured a standard electronic throttle control.

The modified Autotrac 4-wheel drive system and upgraded brake system on Silverado 1500 improved the overall performance.

The Word Truck and Z71 trims were added in 2004 on both regular and extended cab styles. A passenger-side outside door lock had been removed from Silverado 1500.

The crew cab body style was introduced for 2005 model year and standard wheel size had been bumped to 17-in on both extended and crew cabs. A gasoline/electric hybrid model was also realised in this year in limited units and was only available in Florida and Western States.

For 2006, there was a “VortecMAX” performance group that included 6.0-L V8 engine for delivering 345 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.

2007-2010 Silverado 1500

2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was all new from top to bottom; all the engines were upgraded. Towing capacity and safety features made the pickup the odds-on favourite in the full-size pickup class.

2008 and 2009 Silverado 1500 received no major changes, but a 403 hp 6.2-L V8 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission was added as option.

A 6.0-L engine had been dropped in 2010 and all models came standard with front-seat airbags, side curtain airbags, and stability control system.

2011-12 Silverado 1500

The 2011 edition of Silverado 1500 gains the latest OnStar 9.0 system with enhanced audio quality, and speech recognition. The new 2012 Silverado will be more likely a virtual carryover of 2011 version.

The hybrid system is powered by a 332 hp 6.0-L V8 and two 60 kW electric motor, which results in the total output power of 380 hp.
